Julia Louise Pereira

Julia Louise Pereira is an illustrator who focuses on telling compelling stories through images, and engaging her audience in emotionally and politically engaging designs. She re-frames myths and legends by providing us with open narratives that challenge us to question our deepest fears, desires and beliefs.

In her personal work, Julia’s inspired to make is a mix of dark folkloric imagery that inspires a sense of mystery and intrigue, and ethereal plant and wildlife that brings a longing for the wilderness. Her creative process begins with an exploration of visuals and ideas, mostly drawing from folklore, mythology, nature and literature. Once the composition and color palette have been determined, she moves on to the finals, using a mix of watercolors, gouache and pencil crayons. Her designs are sculpted and perfected convey the message crucial to its project.

Julia is a graduate of OCAD University in Illustration and works as Associate Director for WIAprojects. She is also co-founder of the emerging art collective, Carpos Collective.
